Designing with autumn’s last flowers

Dahlias, rose hips and the first dried grasses: how we build autumn work that feels abundant without flying flowers in.

Designing with autumn’s last flowers

Autumn is our favourite season to design for. The garden is at its most generous, the light is low and the palette deepens almost by itself.

What we reach for

Late dahlias, rose hips, crab apples on the branch, smoke bush turning bronze and the first grasses we dried in August. Most of it comes from within an hour of the studio.

A note on longevity

Autumn stems can be thirsty. We condition everything overnight in cool water and avoid floral foam, so arrangements last longer and compost cleanly afterwards.
