Ember & Bone — detail

The brief

Mara and Theo wanted their reception to feel like a late supper in an artist’s studio: dark, warm and a little undone. The tannery’s raw brick and iron trusses gave us the frame; our job was to make the room feel held.

The installation

We built a twelve-metre suspended form from smoke bush, dried palm and trailing amaranthus, rigged from the original trusses so it appeared to drift above the table. Beneath it, low pools of oxblood roses and bone-white ranunculus ran the full length of the supper, broken only by beeswax tapers.

Flowers from our own plot

Around a third of the ranunculus and all of the smoke bush came from our Somerset cutting garden, harvested two days before the wedding.
